Brendan of the Bonus Army interview

The Bonus Army is breaking through the BHC scene in a big way. They will be hitting the road March 13th with The Carrier on an east coast tour. With the track record of Rock Vegas bands I'm expecting big things to come from these guys. Here's an interview I did with Brendan. Check them out at www.myspace.com/thebonusarmy

Alright, so who is The Bonus Army and describe each member in one word:

Freddy B on guitar - Crazy
Fro on Bass- Disgusting
Dan on Guitar- German
Alex on Drums- Its hard for me to do this one for Alex. He is new. once we get back from tour i could probably come up with a word
Brendan (me) on Mic- FUN

Whats the deal with the new record coming out on Rock Vegas? How has it been working with Kris?

We are hoping to have this cd out for late spring. It's called Negative Outlooks. It is ten songs. 3 songs re-recorded and 7 new songs that have never been released. Working with Kris has been good. He hooks us up with shows around the area to help promote us a little more, and he knows what he is doing, so it has been good working with him.

Any touring plans for the summer?

We are definitely going to be hitting the road at some point this summer. We are not sure when we will be doing this yet. I am trying to finish school on time so I am going to be taking a few summer classes, and everyone else works jobs. There have been talks of us doing 10 days with Hammer Bros, which we would really love to do. Who knows we might try to make out way out to the west coast at some point this summer also.

Whats your favorite thing about the Boston Hardcore scene?

There is so much that I love about the scene here in Boston. I must say my favorite thing about it though is that a lot of the people that go to shows around here, make up a lot of the bands in BHC. Its really cool seeing people in bands that I love to see at a show they are not playing.

It's awesome that you'll see dudes in bands at tons of shows and i don't think that happens in lots of scenes.

Boston is on top.

Who in your opinion is the best mosher?

Wow. This is a tough one. I can't really say who is the BEST, but some note worthy ones are Garvey, yourself, Anthony from the Carrier, the list just goes on
.

Bearded Garvey, Posi top Garvey, or Garvey in a sleevless Warzone hoody?

I am going to have to go with Bearded Garvey....he is so beastly.

One last question, 1 show, with 5 bands of your choice. who plays?

Elvis Presley would open, then in no order...Blood for Blood, Minor Threat, Watchfire and The Carrier. I would die happy.

Any last words, call outs, shout outs?

Be sure to check out our cd Negative Outlooks when it drops in the spring time. support BHC, Anchors Up!, The Carrier, Watchfire, Ignorance, COA, RVR...and I mosh harder then Sean Cunningham.

Harm's Way "Reality Approaches"

Wow. This record is fucking hard. Harm's Way from Chicago play heavy hardcore with metal influences like Carcass, Napalm Death, and a little Crowbar. I saw these guys play in some random town outside Worcester and was into their Breakdown cover. After hearing the "Delusion/Repression" 7" I was hooked. Fortunately both of those songs are re-recorded on "Reality Approaches". The Intro kicks in with some mean drums and a bass line that will get you moshing. "Code of the Huns" is real thrashy until a slow breakdown. The aforementioned "Repression" and "Delusion" are next and are some of the top tracks on the record. Constant mosh. "Heillos Warnung" is something Germanic barbarians probably listened to before they raped and pillaged villages of douchebags. It also leads into "Warriors Will Reign" which is probably the heaviest song of the year. The rest of the album is solid with the title track being another highlight. "Reality Approaches" is definitely made for the gym to make gains to. Especially since their top Myspace friends include Muscular Development and Gregg "Ramblin' Freak" Valentino. Check out their other bands too, Convicted and Weekend Nachos. Solid
